- When looking at ingredients be sure to look at the first few ingredients. Look for REAL meat. A meat “meal” is ok as a secondary. It if is leading the ingredients then your dog is not getting a fully nutritional meal. Perhaps little to no nutrition in some cases.
- Beware of dog food manufacturers. They know what dog owners want, what they look for. For example. Dog owners will look at the coats of their dogs and/or their stools to help determine which food is best for their dog. The dog manufacturers are aware of this. They put chemicals in the food so that they result is just about exactly what you are looking for. A shiny coat and a solid stool.
- Depending on your stance with dog food and your dog. You may want to know about this to decide if you want your dog to take this chemical in. That chemical is DHB. Supposedly, it is supposed to reduce the chances that your dog goes senile. The claim is that when put in dog food it fights canine cognitive dysfunction. It is suggested that this chemical(DHB) is or should be considered for older dogs. Tests have shown results from older dogs. In some cases, older dogs were once again go to the bathroom outside the house whereas, at the age they were going inside the house at times. Also shown to reduce free radicals that can damage brain tissue from lesser quality foods without DHB.
- More on chemicals and your dog food. Just like the loophole in steroid-free chicken for us humans. There is a loophole in chemical-free dog food. That loophole is, the manufacturer doesnt have to list the chemicals added to their meat before they received it to be processed by them. That is big.

ingredients are responsible for one or more of the following. Your dog comsuming meat that had worms, cancer or other diseases.
- Raw Eggs and your dog. A healthy dog will not get sick or do harm to its digestive system. Notice, I said “heanlthy”. If your dog is often sick or has allergies then disregard the eggs. Their digestive systems dont allow for much bacteria build up, if any. So I started feeding raw eggs to my Husky. The advantages, so far: eggs give a shiny coat and its not greasy feeling or looking. For my dog, it seemed to reduce his shedding.
- Chicken backs/necks and/or turke necks are very beneficial to a raw fed diet for your dog. Do not assume this as a meal replacement though because it is not. It is not nutritional enough. It is a good “addition” to the normal eating habits of your dog. The benefit of the feeding chicken back and turkey necks to your dog is for the bone nutrition. The bones are a good source of fiber as well as calcium(bones). The dog needs this one way or another. If not this way, then you need get some sort of suppplement.
- Gas “stinky” Attack. Well it’s not an attack. But when it happens you will feel like you have been bombed. In actuality, these “occassion” are normal for the most part. If you change your dogs diet or give them something that they don’t normally eat then they may have a “fart episode” or episodes. Like us, it is normal.
